Dear fellow PVARC members,

Our October 2020 QRO newsletter is attached as a PDF for your reading and reminder of the PVARC's October 1 monthly meeting at 7:30 pm via Cisco Webex when Marcel Stieber, AI6MS, presents "Everything You Need To Know About Lithium Batteries."

Several PVARC members, including yours truly, saw Marcel's presentation at the mid-August "QSO Today" virtual convention and we know you will find his talk to be very interesting. With lithium batteries now powering most rechargeable devices you will have a much better understanding of this battery technology. The Webex information to link into this meeting is shown below and our meeting "room" opens at 7:15 pm.

This weekend has several ham radio contests on HF bands but the most interesting to us is the California QSO Party from 9:00 am Saturday through 3:00 pm Sunday. It's the contest where everyone outside California wants to work only California stations.

Lastly, next Tuesday evening (October 6) the Rancho Palos Verdes City Council will consider adopting the Planning Commission's approved amended ordinance regulating amateur radio antennas. As noted in the QRO newsletter, the proposed ordinance reverts approval for all new antennas between 16'-41' in height to the Director of Community Development, with only those over 41' still needing Planning Commission approval. The previous ordinance draft would have required getting Planning Commission approval for any antenna over 28'.
