Dear fellow PVARC members,
Our December QRO newsletter is attached as a PDF for your reading. Among other things it contains information for those attending this Thursday's PVARC Holiday Dinner (6:30 pm, Meet & Greet; 7:00 pm Dinner followed by program with guest speaker and prize drawings.)
As discussed on page 3 in the QRO issue Hesse Park recently advised us an $18 hourly staff fee is being applied to all room rentals outside of normal park building hours 9:00 am-5:00 pm Monday-Friday and 10:00 am-5:00 pm Saturday-Sunday. Since our monthly meetings and part of our ham license classes and Volunteer Examiner test sessions fall outside normal park building hours we will be paying the $18/hour staff fee during these times (we otherwise do not pay any room rental fees). Our Board consequently decided it was necessary to increase our annual dues to $20 for Individual membership and $25 for Family membership with the entire additional amount raised almost exactly covering the new Hesse Park staff fees. This will be effective for dues received after December 1, 2018. If you were among the few who renewed for 2019 before Dec. 1st there won't be any additional charge. It's important to note our Individual membership annual dues had remained at $15 since the early 1990's and we had planned to continue at that level until we learned of the new $18/hour park fee. Despite the new fee Hesse Park continues as an excellent place for our activities and the park staff has always been very helpful to us. And our new dues levels are at or below those of many other Los Angeles area ham clubs.
In the meantime, our weekly net is at 7:30 pm tonight on the K6PV repeater and cross-banded on 144.910 MHz, Tone Squelch, PL 156.7 for those on the Peninsula's west side. Please check in and say hello. I will be at the Los Angeles Area Council of Amateur Radio Clubs bi-monthly meeting tonight and plan to check in from there.
Finally, in addition to the PVARC Holiday Dinner on Thursday evening our HF Enthusiasts Group meets this Saturday from 10:00 am-Noon in the Palos Verdes Library's Peninsula Center branch. As usual, the HF Enthusiasts Group is in the Purcell Room located at the rear corner behind the Reference Desk. All are welcome at no cost.
Have a great week and 73 to all,
Diana, AI6DF
