Dear fellow PVARC members,

Thank you to everyone who attended last Thursday's monthly meeting. I hope you enjoyed our "lighter side" presentations in keeping with Summer.

This Saturday morning the PVARC has two scheduled events: 1) Our monthly HF Enthusiasts Group meeting at the Palos Verdes Library main branch is from 10:00 am to Noon in the Purcell Room...all are welcome; and 2) Walt Ordway, K1DFO, again heads our public service coverage at the Rolling Hills Estates "Hills Are Alive 10K/5K" along the city's horse trails and parklands.

Our International Lighthouse & Lightship Weekend at Pt. Vicente Lighthouse will be during August 16-18, with 341 lighthouses worldwide registered as of today. On Friday, August 16, we start HF station setup at 3:00 pm on the Lighthouse grounds. We plan to be on the air by 5:30 pm and continue operating until 9:00 pm or later if bands are open. On Saturday, August 17, we'll resume HF operation at 7:00 am and continue until about 10:00 pm. Then on Sunday, August 18, we will operate HF starting at 7:00 am; begin set-up for our family picnic at 11:00 am; the picnic starts at 12:30 pm continuing until 2:30 pm; and finally we take down everything before leaving by 3:45 pm. If you wish to operate our HF station please sign-up with Bob Closson, W6HIP, at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.. If you plan to attend our family picnic please RSVP to me at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. no later than 4:00 pm Thursday, August 15, when we must place our food order. We also ask everyone attending the picnic to kindly bring a side dish or dessert item.

Help is something we definitely need for Lighthouse Weekend. We'd especially appreciate help for our picnic starting at 11:00 am on August 18 with canopy and table setup. We are especially seeking anyone with a pickup truck or other vehicle able to take 8-foot long folding tables plus folding chairs from Gary Lopes' home near St. John Fisher Church to the lighthouse and back. Assistance will be provided to load and unload these. We also need members to take 30-minute turns at the Lighthouse front gate. If you can assist with any of these please let me know--we will be very grateful.

Our weekly K6PV nets are tonight at 7:30 pm (analog) and 8:00 pm (DMR digital). Please check in and say hello...I am in San Pedro tonight for the bi-monthly Los Angeles Area Council of Amateur Radio Clubs meeting and will try checking in using a mobile transceiver instead of a handheld radio.

Have a great week and 73 to all,
Diana, AI6DF
