Dear fellow PVARC members,

Last Thursday night's monthly meeting topic on sunspots was interesting and informative...among other things, we learned even if the sunspot count is zero the Sun's normal daily activity is enough to create ionization enabling some daytime longer-distance communication.  Next month we'll be hearing Dr. Arnold Shatz, N6HC, discuss the 2019 DXpedition to Pitcairn Island in the South Pacific.  Arnie will be showing a video from this DXpedition that highlights more of Pitcairn island's uniqueness instead of just radio operations.  As already mentioned, Pitcairn Island is where the 18th-Century "Mutiny on the HMS Bounty" mutineers settled.

We had a great HF Enthusiasts Group meeting last Saturday at the Palos Verdes Library main branch, with a focus on HF for the first hour.  Many topics were covered and much useful information exchanged.  Consider attending next month.

Our weekly K6PV repeater nets are tonight at 7:30 pm for the analog net (447.120 MHz, - , PL 100.0) with usual 2-meter crossband on 144.910 MHz, Tone Squelch, PL 156.7; then the DMR digital net at 8:00 pm on the PVARC Talkgroup 31060 (Color Code 1, Time Slot 2).  If you have one of the PVARC's three supported DMR radios and would like it programmed to the PVARC's DMR Talkgroup we can do that in the hour before our monthly meetings thanks to Ron Wagner, AC6RW.

Lastly, this weekend is the Yuma Hamfest & ARRL Southwestern Division Convention in Yuma, AZ;  http://www.yumahamfest.org/  .  I am heading there and will report on any interesting aspects.

Thanks to everyone who already renewed their PVARC membership for 2020.  If you still haven't...our membership renewal form is on our website at:
