Dear fellow PVARC members,
Any club member interested in ham radio emergency communication is welcome to participate. A reminder email will be sent late Friday.
Meanwhile, our weekly DMR net is tonight during 7:30-7:55 pm on the K6PV repeater (my apology for the late reminder) with our usual settings: 447.120 MHz (RX), 442.120 MHz (TX), Color Code 1, Time Slot 2, Talkgroup 31060.
The COVID-19 situation continues to impact events of all types, including ham radio. This week we've learned the annual Rolling Hills Estates "Hills Are Alive 10K/5K" along the city's horse trails will not be held on August 8 as scheduled. Our club has provided public service radio communication along this route for many years with our coverage led by Walt Ordway, K1DFO.
Additionally, we have canceled our club's annual family picnic on August 23 at Pt. Vicente Lighthouse during International Lighthouse and Lightship Weekend. We received approval from the Coast Guard to use the Lighthouse grounds for ILLW but have been limited to a maximum of 25 persons across all outdoor areas while observing six-feet of social distancing. Our picnics have had 50-65 people sitting closely together at large tables with buffet type food serving. We are still looking into a smaller-scale HF radio operation using a minimal number of participants for getting Pt. Vicente Lighthouse on the air during ILLW.
ARRL Field Day is coming on June 27-28. We hope as many PVARC members as possible will operate from their home stations. This year clubs can receive a consolidated score across all their participating members who file the ARRL Field Day log submission. We will provide the exact way to spell our club's name in these submissions when we learn how many characters are allowed. If you need help with anything related to HF operating or Field Day we have experienced members who can help. Full rules and other information for Field Day are on the ARRL website at: http://www.arrl.org/field-day#rules
