Dear fellow PVARC members,
Thank you to everyone who RSVP'ed to attend our August 19th Lighthouse Weekend family picnic at Pt. Vicente Lighthouse. If you haven't we need your RSVP by 5 pm Thursday, August 16, to place our food order with Joey's Smokin' Hot BBQ in Torrance. Please contact me to RSVP and we would appreciate if you could bring a small side dish or dessert item.
Although we didn't hold a monthly meeting at Hesse Park last Thursday the PVARC's HF Enthusiasts Group meets this Saturday (Aug. 11) from 10:00 am to Noon in the Palos Verdes Library main branch's Purcell Room. Everyone is welcome to attend...and the room is air-conditioned...for discussing any aspect of HF operating, equipment, or related projects.
Our August QRO newsletter will be sent early next week to incorporate final details for Lighthouse Weekend. Bob Closson, W6HIP, has ably served as our coordinator with the U.S. Coast Guard to facilitate using the Pt. Vicente Lighthouse grounds. Bob and I are visiting the Lighthouse this Saturday during its brief monthly open house to inspect picnic tables, accommodations, and other aspects before we start set-up the following Friday.
Also this Saturday morning a number of PVARC members are providing radio communication for the 37th annual Rolling Hills Estates "Hills Are Alive 10K/5K" along the city's horse trails. We greatly appreciate the time everyone is contributing to this public service activity.
Lastly, just a reminder that our weekly club net is tonight (Tuesday) at 7:30 pm on the K6PV repeater (447.120 MHz, - , PL 100.0) and cross-banded onto 144.910 MHz, Tone Squelch, PL 156.7, for those on the Peninsula's west and northwest sides. We hope you can check in...even if you are at a National Night Out event. I will be at the Los Angeles Area Council of Amateur Radio Clubs bi-monthly meeting tonight and try checking in from there.
Stay cool and 73 to all,
Diana, AI6DF
