Dear fellow PVARC members,
Our December 6th Holiday Dinner at Los Verdes Golf Course is quickly approaching, so please make your reservations now (see attached announcement and RSVP to return at our PO Box). We will have an interesting after-dinner presentation by Manhattan Beach teacher Joanne Michael, KM6BWB, about her high-altitude balloon projects involving elementary school students and amateur radio. In addition, our door prize pool has expanded thanks to a generous donation by our fellow member Tony Bressickello, W6GEZ. So don't delay...
The PVARC's weekly net is tonight at 7:30 pm on the K6PV repeater, cross-banded onto 144.910 MHz, Tone Squelch, PL 156.7 for those on the west side of Palos Verdes. Please check in and say hello.
The ARRL just published results for 2018 Field Day and we scored quite well. This year's results only appear in hard-copy form in QST magazine--not the usual searchable online database--so we can't easily rank our score within the Southwestern Division. But we scored 1st in the Los Angeles Section among eight 2A LAX stations. Among this year's 238 Field Day stations nationwide in class 2A we finished 40th...in the top 17%. Nationally the overall number of Field Day contacts was down 6% from 2017 reflecting propagation conditions. Nevertheless, we are excited about being able to again use Soleado Elementary School for next year's Field Day--and thank everyone who participated in our 2018 Field Day.
Have a great week and 73 to all,
Diana, AI6DF
