Dear fellow PVARC members,

Last Thursday's monthly meeting at Hesse Park had a great Skype presentation on "Ground is a Myth" by Kristen McIntyre, K6WX.  Some technical aspects presented in the first half might have seemed a bit foreign to several who were attending but Kristen's conclusions in the second half were very clear and simple:  lightning protection is really the only "ground" that makes sense.  So you can forget about driving that eight-foot copper rod into your hard soil for a shack ground.  Thank you to everyone who attended...and perhaps we'll have another of Kristen's excellent presentations at a future meeting.

Our ARRL Field Day is June 22-23 at Soleado Elementary School (27800 Longhill Drive in RPV), with setup beginning at 8:00 am Saturday June 22, on-air operation non-stop from 11:00 am Saturday to 11:00 am Sunday, and equipment take-down from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm Sunday.  Rocco, N6KN, is overseeing our Field Day efforts this year and has our CW station generally staffed.  Peter, KE6JPM, is coordinating our SSB/FT8 station, so if you wish to schedule an operating shift there contact him at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it..  If you can help with setup or take-down we'd also appreciate that.  We'll also have a "Get On The Air" station on Saturday afternoon overseen by Bob, AC6RM, if you want to try no-stress HF operating.

The PVARC's weekly nets on the K6PV repeater are tonight at 7:30 pm in analog FM (with the usual 2-meter cross-link on 144.910 MHz, Tone Squelch, PL 156.7) and at 8:00 pm in DMR (Time Slot 2, Color Code 1, Talk Group 31060).  Please check in and say hello on either or both nets.  One DMR advantage is the ability to check in via an internet connection using a "hotspot" on your computer if a line-of-sight radio path isn't available.  We'll be explaining more about hotspots in an upcoming QRO newsletter.

Have a great week and 73 to all,
Diana, AI6DF
