Dear fellow PVARC members,

We're pleased to report the PVARC Board approved and has just ordered a DMR (Digital Mobile Radio) dual-mode repeater to replace our existing analog-only K6PV repeater.  Look for more details in the upcoming February QRO newsletter emailed early next week.  Having a DMR-capable repeater opens new avenues for our members to communicate, while still enabling analog FM compatible with all HT and mobile UHF radios.

In the meantime, our weekly net is tonight at 7:30 pm on the K6PV repeater (447.120 MHz, - , PL 100.0) with the usual cross-band on 144.910 MHz, Tone Squelch, PL 156.7 for those on the Palos Verdes Peninsula's west side.  Please check in and say hello to fellow club members.  Depending on your location and power our K6PV repeater at one of the Peninsula's highest points is useful in analog mode from Santa Barbara to San Diego...and quite a ways inland as well.  Personally, I've communicated with K6PV from outside Ham Radio Outlet in Anaheim using just 5-watts from an HT connected to a mag-mount antenna on my vehicle.  On the other hand, communicating from the San Fernando Valley into K6PV often doesn't work due to shielding by the Santa Monica Mountains.  But...you never know until you try.

We hope to see you at our next club meeting Thursday, Feb. 7, at Hesse Park with noted DXpeditioner and team physician Arnold Shatz, N6HC, speaking about last year's Baker Island DXpedition in the South Pacific Ocean.  Our club's own DXpedition to Catalina Island's Two Harbors during Feb. 20-24 is on-track.  All our equipment is now being readied with nine club members traveling to Two Harbors this year.

One of our club members has asked if there's another member who can help with installing an Icom transceiver in a vehicle.  If you have experience with this please let me know and I will connect you.

Lastly, if you haven't renewed your 2019 PVARC membership please fill out and mail the attached form or renew at our Feb. 7 meeting.

Have a great week and 73 to all,

Diana, AI6DF
